Peace that passes all understanding

This post is just to give all praise to the source of what I can only say is a 'peace that passes all understanding' that has come into my life regardless of my on-going  trials.  That source is the 'love' of God the Father Who gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him might have life everlasting.

After Gedaliah's death at Mizpah, the remnant that was left of the people who had been at Mizpah wanted to go to Egypt because they were afraid of reprisals from Babylon.  They asked Jeremiah to ask God the way they should go and what they should do.  Jeremiah said he would ask God.

They became afraid while waiting ten days for an answer.

Sometimes when we ask God for direction when we are afraid, if God does not answer us straight away we make our own decisions as to what to do.  Then, when we are shown what to do by God through the Holy Spirit enlightening the scriptures to us, the fear that has built up while waiting has taken over.  The remnant was warned that if they went  to Egypt whereas then they put it 'they would not see war or trumpet or be hungry' then the very things they feared would destroy them.

The enemy in the carnal mind can be very powerful and, just as it did with Job, can bring  upon us the very things we fear. They were told that if they trusted in God in their situation then they would be safe, that it would actually be the opposite if they returned to Egypt (trusted in the world and the carnal mind).

Just as God's people were fearful of waiting on God's instruction and wanted to go to Egypt because of the trials they were going through, we who have become God's Spiritual Israel can also allow fear to cause us to listen to what our carnal mind is telling us  to do instead of trusting in God, thinking that we would have a better life.

The following poem is a poem I wrote regarding putting our trust in the Lord as we journey on with Him, and not looking back to our old life.

Have no regrets

Have no regrets - no looking back
don't dwell on what lies behind
for God has just been molding you
for what He has in mind
He's leading you and guiding you
calling you by name
and once you hear His tender voice
you'll never be the same

You'll find in Him a Father
Who loves beyond compare
Who'll comfort you in troubled times
a 'dad' Who's always there
He'll search your heart and show you
things He alone can know
and tell you 'Child don't worry
allow my love to flow'

and when with words unuttered
you tell Him how you feel
He'll bind your wounds and heal your hurts
you'll know a love that's real
So still your mind - receive His peace
don't dwell on things you've done
There's a God Who knows your every thought
and your Saviour is His Son

'Shalom' has a much deeper meaning in the Hebrew language than the 'peace' that we associate it with in the English translation.  According to Strong's Concordance it 's full meaning is :-

completeness, wholeness,
health, peace, welfare,
safety,soundness, tranquillity,
prosperity, perfectness, fullness,
rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.

Jesus says in John ch. 16 v.33 'These things I have spoken to you that IN ME you may have PEACE.  In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.'

Good Post, Brenda!!!

As I read your post, I was reminded of many Biblical and non Biblical examples of people thinking, 'If God is not going to do it, I might as well do it myself.'

Whether it be Saul, at Gilgal, or the Prodigal Son, one theme seems to be common, not waiting and relying on the Lord is foolish.

Two verses come to mind.

"All things work to the good of those who love God and are the called, according to his purpose."

and

"Be still and know that I am there."

Shalom Aleichem!!

I love those two verses Keith. I believe the enemy working in the carnal mind is what stops people from receiving what God has for us in Christ.

Another verse I like is 'Many are the plans of a man's mind, but the Lord directs His path.'
Even though we can not see God, His Word is more real than all that we can see. The word 'believe' has a very deep meaning for me, and I have had experiences of that Word bringing things into being when there has been no doubt in my mind. When I first became born again I saw many beautiful things happening through all the gifts operating as they are meant to. I have gradually seen many church gatherings not experiencing this, and I believe it is because many people are not being taught by the Lord, they are being taught by man.

Hi Brenda! Your poem is so beautiful, and I always need reminders to 'not look back'. Your take on it being a molding opportunity from God is such a great image for me.
I am a terrible 'wait-er' sometimes. When I ask God for an answer, I do think I should have the answer 'now!'. But as you pointed out through Scripture, it is folly to follow through on what I think when I don't know the mind of God.
I remember I as asked to lead a program at my church. I prayed for wisdom about it, and it just seemed like none would come. I waited two weeks, and finally said yes. Big mistake. It was a very tough year of leadership, and I realized that I never should have taken it. What if I waited on the Lord? Saying no to something when you genuinely don't have an answer is never wrong. I sure learned a lot through that experience!
Blessings,
Ceil

Aw Ceil,
you make me smile. I think we definitely all go through the same experiences, although that is one think I would find hard to do - say 'yes' to something I would feel like saying 'no' to. However, I think those kind of mistakes are allowed to make us realize the things that the Lord would have us to do and the things He would have us not to do.
He has made us all different and yet wants us all to function together. I have always thought that when children start school, they should be asked what they love doing, find out what they are good at, and encourage them to grow in the skills that God has instilled within them - instead of making them learn things they might not be good at.
Lovely to hear from you Ceil
God bless you

Dear Brenda,
What a beautiful and affirming post that really spoke to my heart. I love the definition of peace and of course I love your poem! Peace truly is one of the best gifts that is part of our inheritance in Him, for He is Peace.

Hi Brenda,
Waiting on the Lord can be difficult, but it is the wisest and most rewarding course of action, and it pleases Him! Once my husband and I were uncertain as to whether we should prepare a particular piece for our dance ministry, for in the physical realm, it was extremely unlikely that we would have an opportunity to use it. One day in prayer I clearly heard God say in my spirit, "Prepare, for you will need it." I rushed out to tell my husband in great excitement, assuming it would happen very soon. Sure enough, we did get the highly unlikely, unique opportunity to dance this piece -- more than three years later! But His timing is always perfect.
God bless you,
Laurie

Laurie,
I know this will not sound strange to you, but just before I came into my blog I was writing things down on a piece of paper to remind me of three things that I believe the Lord has been showing me regarding whether we are to make a particular move that we have been discussing.
These three things are very scriptural and seem to be bringing me a peace as to it all being in the Lord's hands (as when I think of us trying to do it, negative things come into my mink). Yet when I look back in our lives and see what the Lord has amazingly done, nothing seems impossible.
I know that the Lord's timing is perfect, and you relating this story is part of the journey for me.
God bless you Laurie, as I know He has.

Laurie Collett said...

Amen, Brenda! It is amazing to look back and see how He so perfectly fit all the pieces together, even when they seem to be broken. This is an affirmation of our faith in His perfect timing and His faithfulness. Praying for you, for wisdom and discernment to know His perfect will. In our flesh we can do nothing, but with Him, all things are possible.
He blesses us indeed!

Brenda said...

Thank you Laurie for your prayers, I totally agree that all things are possible and every day in our lives was written in His book before even one of them was formed. I shall leave it to the Lord - praise His lovely name.

Nice to hear from you Sateigdra.
The one thing that has been emphasized to me throughout my trials is that when I take captive the thoughts that go against what God is speaking to me through the enlightening of the Word to me by the Holy Spirit, then I receive a peace that makes me feel as if I am not being attacked by the enemy.
I truly believe, and know from previous experiences, that the Word of God spoken to us has the ability to bring into existence that which does not exist - when we believe.
There is a time and a purpose for everything.
God bless you Sateigdra.

Dear Brenda,
It is truly awesome that our names were written in His book from before the beginning of time, and that He created each of us with a specific plan for our life that He also knew from then. May we yield to His Spirit and follow that awesome plan.
God bless you,
Laurie

Hi Brenda,
It is so good to connect with you again. You are such a prayer warrior. Thank you for sharing this bit on "Shalom" It is so true that we don't understand the full meaning of the Hebrew and Greek words. We miss so much when we read the Bible in English.
It seems God does keep us in waiting and if we seek Him He will give us that peace while we wait. Patience has always been a downfall of mine but I am learning to really enjoy being patient. As I wait in His presence for His timing He has been so gracious to me to see some of the work He is doing while I wait. It is like watching an artist create a masterpiece. It excites me so much to know that He allows us to be part of the masterpiece and watch it unfold.

Good word sister!

I agree with you Laurie,
He is amazing! Our times could not be in better hands.
God bless you Laurie.

Hi coG,
I had to smile when you said about 'patience'. I remember years ago looking up the word 'patience' in the dictionary. It said 'The ability to endure with calmness'. I thought 'I can endure, but not without gritting my teeth sometimes'. So I prayed to God to teach me patience. Within a very short time I was working in a care home for the elderly - I soon learned patience, and loved it.
As far as the Hebrew language is concerned, there is a blogger called Keith who I interact with, he has two great blogs and he speaks both Hebrew and Greek and shares much of the true translations in his blogs.
They are on my sidebar to the right of my blog and they are:-

Brenda, This is a very awesome post and poem. One I needed to hear today. I have been guilty of running ahead of God instead of waiting for His perfect timing. Thank you.

Brenda said...

Hi Karen,
I have to say - this is one of the biggest tests I have gone through and still do go through, waiting on the Lord for His perfect timing, especially concerning God's promises to me regarding healing. The enemy can bring fear and doubt into our carnal minds and try to cause us to listen to him instead of that Word.
Some of the first words the Lord spoke to me in my early days of trials was 'If you love Me keep my commands'(from John ch 14). I knew He was not speaking about the ten commandments, but about what He instructs me to do through that written Word highlighted to me by the Holy Spirit daily.
Sometimes it can be hard to persevere, but as we endeavour to take every thought captive and bring it into obedience to Christ, and what is spoken to us through that Word, then at God's perfect timing that Word will bring into existence that which does not exist.
God bless you Karen.

Hi Stephanie,
I have only just seen your comment, it came up on my smartphone. Than you for your nice comment. I think the older I get - the busier I get, and never seem to have as much time as I used to for reading blogs. It was lovely to come over and see yours once more, always very nice and decorative.

Hi Brenda,
I have always loved reading your blogs. This poem is just what I needed to read today. so many regrets you could have in life but really you do just have to let the Lord heal you of things.
I so appreciate your comments when you visit on my blog. I'm sorry you don't get the updates. Somethings on my blog are not working for sometime now and I can't seem to fix them. Anyway...be blessed today and I will visit again.

Hi Chelle,
lovely to hear from you. I am so glad the poem spoke to you. I know that all the things in my past were for a reason, and even the things which we may now regret cause us to have sympathy and understanding with others going through the same things.
If we look into the scriptures, most of the followers of Jesus were 'reformed rebels'. That is the reason Jesus was sent eh?
God bless you.
