Be strong in Him and in the power of His might

During the night of Monday 15th July I was really struggling, in a lot of pain, and unable to sleep because of it.  I feel that ever since the Lord told me that He would heal me from something I have had for twenty two years I have been in a 'Job ch. 2 situation ' where Satan has been allowed to inflict sickness and pain upon me, although where it says in the book of Job that Job was a righteous man, the only righteousness I have as a believer is the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

However, I knew that the Lord had spoken to me saying that He is going to heal me, just in the same way He has kept me alive for the last twenty two years after telling me that His grace was sufficient for me and using the scripture  Isaiah ch.31 v.1. 'Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!( Egypt here spiritually representing the world, as it does when we the Spiritual  children of Israel are brought out of it into the wilderness on our journey to the promised land.)  So I prayed inwardly over and over for Him to take my pain away.    After a few seconds I was waking up about three hours later with no pain at all.

I know it was something completely supernatural which only the Lord could have done.  He had answered my prayer and through it was continuing to strengthen  my faith regarding the healing He has promised, and the need for me to pray to Him, as opposed to allowing the old man to cause doubt in my mind.  The pain has continued to come back and I am getting stronger in my prayers for the Lord to take it away.  Several times He has taken the pain away and I believe He is teaching me to come closer to Him in prayer, just as a person would be taught something by doing it over and over again, and more and more the doubt is slowly being removed as I do so.  There is a time for everything, including healing, Ecclesiastes ch.3 v.3. and I believe absolutely that the promise that the Lord has given me that He will heal me will be fulfilled as long as I continue to put my trust in Him.

The other day I came across my baptism card.  I was baptised on the 21st of November 1982.  The verse written on the bottom of the card is 'Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might'.  Ephesians ch. 6 v.10, and I knew that it was the Lord reminding me to be strong solely in HIM and in the POWER OF HIS MIGHT, nothing else.  I love the way the Lord continues to speak to us with encouraging scripture once He has revealed His will for us.  If we persevere and hold firmly to what the Lord has spoken to us as we go through our trials, we will come through victorious in Him, for He is not a man that He should lie.  Numbers ch.23 v.19.   'God is not a man that He should lie, neither the Son of man that He should repent:  Has He said, and shall He not do it?  or has He spoken, and shall not He make it good?'

I was reading someones blog and 1 Timothy ch. 4 v. 15 and 16   was quoted in it.   'Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.  Watch your life and doctrine closely.  Persevere in them, because if you do you will save both yourself and your hearers. '
It emphasises just how important how we live our lives and what our doctrine to others is, regarding our own salvation and the salvation of those who are listening to our doctrines, just as it was emphasised to Timothy.

For about two weeks now my attention has been drawn to 1 Corinthians ch. 12 vs 1 - 11 in which it states;-   Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.   You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.   Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.  Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.  To the one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophesy to another distinguishing between spirits, to another  speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one, just as He determines.

I have to say that I have only ever seen the gift of healing and the gift of miraculous powers in two church gatherings out of all the church gatherings I have attended and in my father, who prayed for both my sister and myself at different times when we were ill and we were healed instantly by the Lord.  As a result of all that has happened in my life I have to say that I have been shown to be strong in nothing else but the Lord and the power of His might and I pray that this alone would be what all of us as believers would become strong in.

Dear Brenda,
You say,
"Job was a righteous man, the only righteousness I have as a believer is the righteousness of Jesus Christ."
And I can add that Zechariah and Elizabeth "were blameless in the sight of God, walking in all his commandments." (Luke 1)
Yet in Psalm 14 it says, "There is no one that does good and seeks after God, no, not even one."
We can conclude that it is hopelessly impossible to try and please God through our own righteousness, therefore it can only be said that the righteousness of Christ must have existed in every Old Testament saint as well as in every believer alive today.
That is the reason why I believe in Once Saved Always Saved - because it's not our righteousness that has any effect but Christ's righteousness in us that saves.
Also Paul's letters to Timothy are pastoral instructions for the role of church leaders and elders. Keeping a good reputation in the world was of utmost importance. (Just look at the Roman Catholic Church at present) including holding proper doctrines. The word "save" or "to save" I believe, does not mean salvation in this context, as "save" has a wider context in the Bible.
What Paul was concerned about was the reputation of the church and its elders "must be blameless (in the world) and beyond reproach" or else it would be easy prey for mockery and criticism among unbelievers.
A good post.
God bless.

Yes Frank,
the only righteousness I have as a believer is the righteousness of Christ, but that righteousness has to be placed in me as I have my mind renewed in Christ Jesus. I have my mind renewed in Christ Jesus by picking up my daily 'manna' since I have left spiritual Egypt (the world) and acting on that word, not just being a hearer of it. We are told to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and we SHALL be saved, and to work out our own salvation. The 'working out' is not doing works to bring about salvation, it is Jesus alone who has done that through the crucifixion. The 'working out' is
picking up the daily manna, acting on that word and gradually being changed into His image. Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ is believing on the word, He is that word. God bless

Hi Brenda,

I think it is amazing how God is speaking so directly to us. (Especially when in the midst of our trials).
When you said that your prayers are getting stronger, that made me think about how many people tend to do just the opposite when God does not do what they are asking immediately. You are showing us a good example by praying God's will according to the promise He made to you which is confirmed in His Holy Word.
I like the scripture that tells us that this present suffering is not worth comparing to the glory to be revealed to us. (Rom 8:18)
It is still not easy to endure suffering. But you are drawing closer to God who will draw closer to you. The rest of that verse tells us to resist the devil so he will flee from us...It is in the devil's nature to kick us while we are down...but then Jesus tells us that it is when we are weak that He is strong (in us)!
So, we are His righteousness, and therefore the battle is not ours but the Lord's...and prayer is our weapon of defense...God just wants us to participate in the battle by strengthening our prayers so that we may stand and not become discouraged until we see the victory played out for and in us.
I am adding you to my own prayers Brenda...

May this affliction be over for you so that you can add it to your testimony for what the Lord has done for you...a complete healing In Jesus name~ That all may glorify the Lord Jesus Christ because of what He has done for us who love Him and believe on His Holy name~ Amen~!

Hi Lisa,
thank you for your beautiful comment and prayer. Even though I am going through this trial it is as if what the world would say this sickness is is being overruled completely by the Lord's promise to heal me, which I know absolutely that He can do because I have experienced both miraculous healing and healing that has taken time. Also He has told me to wait PATIENTLY for Him and He will incline unto me. I remember asking the Lord to teach me patience (I could endure things at the time, but only while gritting my teeth). I looked up the word 'patience' in the dictionary and it said 'the ability to endure with calmness'). Very soon after I prayed the Lord sent me to work in a home for the elderly, the perfect place for me to learn calmness. God bless you Lisa.

Hi Brenda, I thank God for your life of prayer. I have been reading your blog for a long time without being able to comment. I don't know why but I suspect it's because I started reading blogs with a phone. Today I had to come here through my laptop just to see if my comment gets published.

Your life is so inspiring.

Hi Eya,
So strange, I was thinking about you last night. Yes your comment has come up on my post and it is lovely to hear from you. I totally believe that prayer is the lifeline to God, and that quite often we will pray to Him but at the same time not believe that He will answer. That is not how it should be, and I know that the Lord would not want us to be double minded. God bless you Eya.

Hey Brenda, I always enjoy reading your posts, they are so very nice and I always find myself examining myself and thinking about a whole bunch of stuff. Your post just really always leave me thinking deeply about God. I keep you in my prayers Brenda. I thank God for you, although you live far far away and I may never meet you in this side of life, I am glad to have met you on here.

I too asked God to teach me patience, which people were saying I shouldn't because if you do God will put you through trials. But patience is important, no matter how many trials may come we must endure. I'm still learning this. I never thought to look up the meaning of patience, I guess I though I knew the meaning all along, but seeing it made me really think about my conduct and think many times I have not been patient. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post Brenda. May Gods strength and love and peace be with you always.

Brenda, thank you for such an encouraging post. That is the ideal, to be so intimate with our Heavenly Daddy that our thoughts are His thoughts. Hugs my friend.

Hi Sateigdra,
lovely to hear from you, and thank you for your kind words, although the only credit for all that we share goes to our lovely Lord doesn't it. I actually enjoyed learning patience at the home, it opened my eyes to the loneliness and suffering of some elderly people in homes and I was glad to be with then. I am very glad to have met you and all the other bloggers on here too. Thank you for keeping me in your prayers, it is good for us all to pray for one another. Thank you for your blessing and may God's strength, love and peace be with you always too.

Hi JBR,
yes you are right, the ideal is to be so intimate with the Lord that our thoughts are His thoughts. That is the beautiful thing about having the Holy Spirit to enlighten the scriptures for us. Hugs to you too my friend.

Praise God that He is all we need -- for salvation, for the perfect righteousness of His Son imparted to us as believers, and for physical and spiritual healing. You are a shining example of how trials can strengthen our faith in Him and bring us into a closer walk with Him.
Thanks for the beautiful post, and God bless,
Laurie

Hello Laurie,
thank you for your kind comment. It is a case of having to persevere in trials sometimes, but only if I know for certain that it is the Lord who is encouraging me to do so, otherwise I would be tempting God. Sickness and finances have always been the two trials that have accompanied me, and I can truly say regarding the Lord in both these trials 'Hitherto hath the Lord helped me'. I believe that everyone of us are put through various trials and our testimonies are used to encourage and build one another up in the Lord. Not one of us is expected to put ourselves through another's trial, that would be trying to do what God may not be calling us to do at that present time. It is just to share the love and comfort of the Lord and to gradually come to know the power of His might. I love reading the testimonies of all my brothers and sisters in the Lord and am encouraged by many things that I read within them. God bless you Laurie.

Amen, Brenda, the journey He has designed for each of us is unique, including the trials He allows to perfect us for His purpose. Praying for you, and may God continue to bless you and your ministry.
Love in Him,

Hi Laurie,
yes our individual journeys are all unique even though we are all one in Jesus. Sometimes the trials can be hard but, if the Holy Spirit has led the individual into that trial, He will bring us through and it is all to glorify God. It is very important to keep our eyes on the Lord and not the physical situation for it is with Him alone that all things are possible. One of the first things the Lord spoke to me when I became born again was 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don't lean on your own understanding.' Thank you for your prayers Laurie. God bless you and your ministry.

Hi Brenda, I have Proverbs 3:5-6 ('Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths') on 2 stone plaques over my desk. It is a great help to read these throughout the day as I am seeking guidance. God bless you.

Hi Laurie,
yes it is a beautiful scripture isn't it. I find that it helps me a lot because especially in times of trial the carnal mind will try to take advantage of my physical weakness by bringing worldly wisdom in to try to cause me to question what God has told me He will do. I have a little photograph of a red rose I have in my garden called 'fragrant cloud' with the scripture 'I will love You O Lord my strength' on my bedside cabinet and on the shelf in my computer room. God bless you too Laurie.
