The prodigal returns

This morning I awoke to find myself singing in my mind two songs I wrote some time ago, so I thought I would put them up as a post.

I'm on a cloud

I'm on a cloud above the world
a cauldron boils below
I see beneath me on God's earth
a tale of dread and woe
of how so very long ago
a man was formed from clay
and given life from God above
but sin led him astray
- sin led him astray

He questioned what the Father said
and lost eternal life
so now he struggles in this world
in self-destructive strife
-in self-destructive strife

He tries to shape his future by the power of his own hand
his cry 'I'm my own master' - it echoes through the land
but while this proud confession is still upon his breath
the worldly life for which he strives has now become a death
-has now become a death

He stumbles in the darkness - his eyes have gone quite blind
'What have I done?' he questions - 'I've lost my peace of mind
-I've lost my peace of mind'

But wait! I look towards the east - a ray of hope I see
a second Adam sent to earth to set all mankind free
Put down your heavy burdens - this Saviour comes with love
come drink the waters of new life - sent down from God above
sent down from God above
He brings salvation to the world
your sins have all been pardoned
come learn of Him the Father's ways
don't let your hearts be hardened
-don't let your hearts be hardened

'Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'  Acts ch 2 v. 38

The prodigal returns

Lord I’m lost in the darkness
lost alone and forlorn
my garments are tattered and filthy
my sandals are battered and worn
Lost, I’m injured and frightened
with wounds all open and sore
the life that I thought I had wanted
has left me rejected and poor

Lord I’m sorry I hurt You
now pain is the path that I roam
discovered when I chose to desert You
Father I want to come home
Now as I lay on my pillow
my slumber is broken by fears
my shelter is the ash and the willow
my friends are repentance and tears

Father I’ll never deserve You
You love me in spite of my shame
I run to You now longing to serve You
proud to be wearing Your name
Yes I run to You now longing to serve You
I’m so proud to be wearing Your name

Hi Sandi,
absolutely right, our only hope is Jesus, and how merciful and forgiving is our Father in Him.

Hi Karen,
thank you for your lovely comment. All glory to our Lord Jesus and our Father God, Who are wonderful and life-giving eh?

Very nice, Brenda, as always. :-) As I read your second poem, I'm reminded of one of the things I pray, practically every night. I tell God that I'm so sorry he went through all that he did, for my salvation, even making his son go through so much pain, so I could be reconciled back to him. Of course, I very thankful he did. :-)But I often wonder how many people give it any thought, whatsoever. So many of us take him for granted and expect it, without thinking of all the things he did, to make it happen. Thanks, Brenda.

My dear Brenda, thank you for this wonderful post! Such precious words to ponder...

Also, thank you for the lovely visit to my blog. I always enjoy your sweet comments :)

Happy weekend to you. Love and hugs!

Hi Keith,
I feel the same regarding God's love and Jesus' sacrifice, and I know it was the only way we could be reconciled back to God. That is why I believe it is so important to share the Word of God and our testimonies, as I know you yourself believe. We never know who is going through the same challenges and who needs that Word of encouragement.

Hi Stephanie,
lovely to see you, as it was lovely to come over to your blog. I shall have to make sure I have eaten a good meal before I visit your blog as your delicious recipes make me hungry:-).

Hi Brenda! You are so talented! And I can see why these songs would stick in your head, they are so relatable and uplifting too. God has us in the palm of his hand, even in our sin and fear. What a wonderful Father he is!
Blessings,
Ceil

Hi Brenda, I've had a wonderful day and listened to a lot of very blessed Christian music. When I saw this post and read your words it was like a melody was set to them. I love the "poetry" of the first one: "I'm on a cloud above the world, a cauldron boils below." Of course it's all beautiful and leads us to the greatest treasure we can ever have!! I can relate to the brokenness of the second one...feeling "battered and worn" and running to our beautiful Lord and Savior. What a Blessing! Thank your for sharing your gift!

Hi Ceil,
The songs the Lord has given me are often coming into my mind. It is a constant journey until we rise to be with the Lord, and sometimes a scripture read and a song coming into my mind go together as a reminder that the enemy is always around, but in the Lord we have the victory.
God bless you Ceil.

Hi Jephyr,
thank you for your kind comment, all glory to God and His wonderful Son for the songs and poems. You are a reminder to me that I must listen more to music and praise the Lord more in my home, as I always used to. My guitars are lying idle upstairs for much of the day, and although I sing around the house, I need to play my gospel music more.
God bless you Jephyr.

"my friends are repentance and tears"

This line reminds me of Much Afraid's friends, Sorrow and Suffering, from the books "Hinds Feet on High Places."

Hi Sandi,
just looked up on Google the books you are talking about. They sound like nice children's books.

Hi Brenda,
What beautiful songs expressing our only hope in the person of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior!
Like Sandi, I highly recommend Hinds' Feet in High Places -- a beautiful allegory of our Christian walk.
May God bless you and your ministry,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
Our only hope of reconciliation back to God and forgiveness of sin definitely is in believing in our Lord Jesus Christ, and I would not want to be anywhere else except in the body of Jesus on earth.
I would love to return to things I used to do, such as reading books and artwork, but I find the older I get the busier I get. I love the things I get involved in though.
God bless Laurit.

Hi Brenda~ once again you share with us such Truths of God's Word, thank you.
I'm forever grateful for my Salvation, but sorry that my Precious Savior had to be crucified on that cruel cross because of my sins. Praising Jesus for the victory we have in Him!!
God bless you ♡

Brenda said...

Hi Debbie,
I join you in praising Jesus for the victory we have in Him. I too am so grateful for my Salvation but sorry that He had to suffer so much in order that we might be reconciled back to God.
One of the most convincing and convicting scriptures to me as I learn from that precious Word is Hebrews ch. 10 v. 26:-
'For if we sin wilfully after having received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,....'

Hi Sateigdra,
lovey to hear from you, I was thinking about you this morning and wondering how you are. All glory to God for the songs, they were given to me at specific times. The Lord is a beautiful Saviour and there are so many people out there that do not know Him yet, or have had a false impression of Him in their minds.
God bless you Sateigdra.

Dear Brenda,
Praise God that He has different ministries for us in different seasons. Since I became sick with pneumonia, I have not been able to dance, sing, or teach, but praise God, He still allows me to write in short spurts and to pray.
God bless you and your ministry.

Hi there,
glad you feel that way about the info in this post. If we want to return to our Father God the only way is through Jesus, who brings us eternal life. I have had a near death experience which took me to a place that nowhere on earth can compare to - it was the place we go to after this life when we believe in Jesus our Lord and Saviour. God bless.
