Our responsibility in these times.

Giving presents at Christmas is a nice thing to do, but the greatest thing we can do to our little children, grand children, or great grandchildren is to share the story of Jesus' birth . It doesn't even matter whether Jesus was not born on December 25th, which He actually wasn't, but what does matter is that little ones will have the true story told to them. What comes straight into my mind is Proverbs ch. 22 v.6 which says :-

'Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it'.

This does not mean that they will not stray, for all have to be born again of God's Holy Spirit in order to learn God's ways, and in John ch. 3 vs 3-5 Jesus mentions  this:-

' Jesus answered and said unto him, 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, 'Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'

Nicodemus said unto Him, 'How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Jesus answered, 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God.'

All we as born again believers can be responsible for, regarding children at this time of the year, is to make sure that they not only get nice gifts - whatever they might be - but most importantly hear the story of Jesus' birth, so that they will know of it.

May the Lord Jesus be our strength in these trying times, and I pray for those who don't know Him to come to Him and seek His wisdom. God bless all who read with all the blessings He has for us.

Hi Sandi, we are enjoying this time of year here even though we have fairly strict rules. Living down on the peninsular we are close to our son and his family but we keep our distance if we need to meet. There will just be the two of us and our little cat in the house over Christmas. Enjoy your Christmas Sandi.

Hi Geoff, I love the fact that time and distance mean nothing when we are in the Lord, and I can speak to my brother in the Lord in South Africa saying God bless you too from Ireland.

Hi Brenda,
Amen! May we teach our children God's Word, and especially the story of our Lord's incarnation, crucifixion and resurrection, so that they can be born again and have eternal life!
And what a beautiful poem, not just for Christmas but for all time.
Thank you for the wonderful post, and may you and your family have a blessed Christmas,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
hope you had a lovely time celebrating the birth of our lovely Lord. Jesus is indeed our all time Lord, in Whom is the greatest love anyone could experience. My husband and I spent a nice day together yesterday, just on our own as we told our son and his family who live close by that we would self isolate in these times - but still had communication and exchanged gifts. God bless you and yours Laurie.

Hi Jan,

Dear Brenda,
You were wise to self-isolate -- so many are throwing caution to the winds. Praise the Lord that you were still able to celebrate. We were blessed to be joined by our son and his lovely wife, who are very careful regarding COVID. I prepared dinner in advance and we ate outdoors and exchanged gifts in our large screened-in porch, at tables 8 ft. apart and wearing masks when not eating. It was a lovely celebration honoring Christ. Praise the Lord for His infinite love, mercy and grace. God bless you and your family in 2021 and until He comes again,
Laurie

Hi Lauie,
What a perfect way to celebrate the coming of our Lord. It sounds like you have the perfect home for doing it and are very sensible in these times. God bless you and yours fully until our lovely Lord returns. Stay safe, and a very happy New Year. God bless you and your family with all He has for us as we put our trust in Him daily.

I hope that you had a lovely Christmas, Brenda. Some of my earliest and most favorite memories of Christmas are the church services where as a child I learned the story of the birth of Jesus. Such a powerful and hope-filled event. Wishing you all the best in the new year!

Hi Louise,
we had quite an isolated Christmas as we are down on a peninsular in northern Ireland, but I enjoy every day and keep in touch with my friends and family in Wales too. We have a local shop here but go into towns about twenty and thirty miles away, but I would not want to live anywhere else. The only thing I have done that I shouldn't have done over Christmas and the new year times is EAT TOO MUCH. Ha ha, I love cakes, chocolate etc.... but I am on a good diet from now and looking forward to a happy 2021. Wishing you and yours all the best this new year too.

HaHa! I've eaten way too much too, Brenda! We still have half a pineapple upside-down cake to finish, and I'm going to bake Terry's favorite Christmas cookies that his Irish mother always made. I'm spacing all our goodies out to help with the weight gain! LOL! Good luck ~ I know how tempting cake and chocolate are!

There is always a saying when people are likeminded - whatever it might be. It is 'JOIN THE CLUB'. I welcome all who love the Lord Jesus and those who do not know Him Spiritually, to 'join the club' by being born of His Holy Spirit which gives us access to eternal life. God bless everyone with a very happy 2021.
